What Unboxed99 stores about you, why, and for how long. Draft: this page is still being reviewed.
You don't need an account
When you first ask a question, your browser gets an anonymous ID so we can keep your conversation together and limit abuse. We don't ask for your name, email or phone number. If you sign in with Google, we store only a one-way hash of your Google account ID, not your email address.
What we store
- Your questions and our answers, so follow-up questions work and you can see your history. Before a question is stored, we remove things that look like phone numbers, email addresses and similar personal details.
- Research jobs you start (the product question, its status and the result).
- Results you save and share links you create. You can delete saved results.
- The research itself (public web pages we read, the claims taken from them, and verdicts). This is about products, not about you, and it's what our public review pages are built from. Those pages never show who asked.
- Usage and cost records for each research run, linked to your anonymous ID.
What we don't store
We don't keep your IP address or your browser's user agent in our database or in our logs. Your IP address is used only to rate-limit requests and is held in memory for at most an hour. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.
In your browser
Your anonymous ID token and your current conversation are kept in your browser's session storage. They are cleared when you close the tab.
Services we use
- OpenAI turns public web pages into claims and verdicts, and answers follow-up questions, so it receives your follow-up questions after personal details are removed.
- Search providers (TinyFish, and our own SearXNG) receive search terms built from the product names you ask about.
- Cloudflare carries all traffic to the site. Google Fonts serves the fonts, and Google handles sign-in if you use it.
How long we keep it
Anonymous ID tokens expire after 30 days, and an active conversation expires after 72 hours. Stored questions and answers are deleted after 90 days: a daily job removes them, and the question text in older research records. Your history still lists that research, without the question.
Your rights
Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act you can ask us what we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it. A contact address for these requests will be added here before this page is published.
